                  HOW TO BOOK A TRIP

Chris leads two organised trips a year to the Mt Everest region of Nepal. Up to 8 people can book and the trip takes around 14 days. You need to book early as bookings close 2 months prior to departure.

A deposit of $1200 is reguired and this is not refundable although it is transferable to another date.

All porters and guides on Chris' trips are hired under the guidelines of Himalayan and National Parks and are cared for with ethical and high standards.

All trek clothing can be purchased in Kathmandu with the exception of Boots for under $100 per person.

Trip costs are all inclusive but exclude international airfare and insurances (standard travel insurance essential in case of evacuation)

A health check and suitable doctor's certificate of health will be required. We will also provide a recommended preparation training program... that's enjoyable and beneficial.

                  THE TRIP

The trek takes around 10 days with two days either side of the trek in Kathmandu for preparation. During the ten days trekking you'll walk around 4-6 hours each day and have two days off.

Each day's trekking is relatively easy. Your luggage is carried by porters and you sleep in lodges each night. There's no rough and tough outdoorsy stuff on the trek itself. However, when we arrive at our daily destination you get the option of some serious side track exploration. For example, walking up to a climbing base camp to meet an expedition team or to a high monastery to meet enlightened monks and nuns.

The daily trek is done slowly because we are acclimatising and this process is best done at a more leisurely walking pace. The side tracks are optional and we often split the group into more and less adventurous use of time. There is even the option of just resting and enjoying the company of local people.

The weather in the Himalayas is unpredictable on a year to year basis and so, views, scenery and photography is never guaranteed for the whole trip but usually for some if not most. We walk in the shadow of Sagamatha, Mt Everest and other amazing and sacred mountains. It's an energy you just never forget.

You'll need to be fairly fit, but there's five star (not really five star) trekking lodges all the way.  There are beautiful monasteries, great laughing monks, amazing local Sherpa and Nepali people.

You get treated like a king or queen (your preference) and our trekking guides look after everything from arrival in Kathmandu to departure and guarantee everything. (excludes the weather)...

Safety is often an early question in people's enquiry and I need to be frank. The trail, the food, the walking, the journey is safe. Altitude acclimatisation is also safe provided we take the prescribed process of adjustment as our mantra... you can be guaranteed a few headaches, but little else.

Gear is important. Most important, because of the amount of walking we do, boots come first. We always recommend boots be purchased at home and walked in during training. All else can be hired, bought and borrowed in Kathmandu for little more than $100... in fact we often include all gear (except boots and undies) in the costs... we even take you shopping.

So, Nepal, the perfect combination of the physical and the spiritual, a land of inspiration, healing and amazing journeys... Most important, the motto of Nepal "expect the unexpected." and come join us on our next trip, May 2012.

It Doesn't Get Much Better Than This

                  Picture
You’re sitting with friends, and it’s minus 5 degrees C. but your down jacket and gloves are windproof and cozy. Maybe your feet are a little chilly, so you kick them against a rock, which is standard Sherpa tradition for improving circulation… not that they have much trouble at this altitude.

The vista is perfection. The Himalayas… vast, unending, unforgiving and yet, it’s home to many of us.

Yes, it doesn’t get much better than this: no car, no phone, no TV, no booze, no money… just a hill, a view and cold wind. Such a life reveals the missing elements of the other. Do we really need to go back?
